Seven Upper School students enrolled in AP Computer Science attended the annual AP Bowl held at Georgia Tech on April 28. The competition, which involves taking a test similar to the multiple-choice portion of the AP Computer Science exam, drew a field of nearly 200 students from metro-Atlanta high schools.
For the fourth straight year, Whitefield had at least one student to place in the top five. Sophomores Edward Lee and Devin Wade correctly answered 39 out of 40 questions on the exam to finish in a tie for second place.
Seniors Alex Carver, Joseph Schwartz, and Kaitlyn Stewart along with sophomores Maddie King and Everett Sinclair performed well in the competition. They also managed to win prizes in the annual raffle, which made for an all-around exciting day.
The weekend before the AP Bowl, Whitefield fielded two teams for Code Quest, which is an annual programming competition held at various Lockheed Martin facilities around the country. Juniors Caleb Corliss, Grayce Guthrie, and Donovan Pearce, who attended the event last year while taking AP Computer Science, competed in the advanced division. Maddie, Edward, and Devin participated in the novice division. While neither team placed, they gained valuable experience and enjoyed a tour of the Marietta facility.
