Congratulations to the varsity volleyball team which recently beat 3AAAAAA Pebblebrook High School in convincing fashion (25-12 and 25-13).
Playing at home, the teams were tied at 6-6 during the first set. At 10-7, Kate MacPhail (10th) came on to serve and reeled off six straight points, including one ace. The Pack built a solid nine-point lead at 18-9 when Sunni Dupree (9th) came on to serve and blistered the visiting Falcons with five straight points, including four aces to win the set.
In the second set, Pebblebrook led 10-12. Sunni went to the service line and put up an awesome service barrage, earning ten straight points and stunning the Falcons with six aces. Sunni earned the team high with a total of ten aces for the match. After this barrage, Pebblebrook never recovered and Whitefield pulled away, winning the set and the match.
On offense, Kate and Anna Moore (12th) added a service ace each to Sunni’s team high. Anna Long (11th) came alive at the front line with five kills, followed by Sunni with three kills. Grace Babcock (12th) had two kills; Kelsey Butler (10th) had one. Anna Moore, fourth in Class A statewide in assists, put up seven more assists in the match. On defense, Morgan Landers (12th) pulled out three digs, followed by Kate with two digs, and Sunni with one.
