Last week will be hard to top for Whitefield athletics! The WolfPack celebrated Spirit Week, and the excitement and support for the Pack was evident as students participated in dress-up days and two pep rallies throughout the week. By the end of the week, Whitefield teams had earned two championship trophies and participated in unforgettable Homecoming festivities.
On Thursday, our varsity cross-country team traveled to Darlington to compete in the area meet, where the Pack had an overall very strong performance. Sophomores Devin Wade and Emily Little each finished first in their respective races, Emily Little and Annie Edwards qualified for state competition, and the varsity boys team placed four runners in the top five. These successes where highlighted at the end of the meet as the varsity boys team claimed the area championship! Congratulations, coaches and runners, on this awesome win! We’re looking forward to cheering for you as you proceed to state! WolfPack fans, you can cheer on your cross-country team at the state championship on Friday November 3, at Carrollton High School. The boys team will compete at 10:30 a.m., and our two female runners will start at 11:15 a.m.
Middle School football also competed on Thursday, traveling to Mount Paran for the Metro10 championship game. The WolfPack had been looking forward to this game since the team’s last victory over Kings Ridge, with our Middle School fans leading the enthusiasm and celebrating in a Middle School pep rally on Wednesday. After an exciting game and a great performance by WolfPack offense and defense, the game ended with a 21–6 lead in our favor, earning the Pack their first Metro10 football championship title! Congratulations to each player and coach for an outstanding season! You have worked incredibly hard and sought to honor Christ at every turn, and we’ve loved cheering for you throughout this season!
These amazing victories led us into a great Friday, during which our Middle and Upper School students, dressed in blue and gold, finished the school day with a pep rally in anticipation of that night’s Homecoming game.
WolfPack fans finished the week by cheering the varsity football team to a decisive 24-7 win over a strong opponent, Walker. Halftime included the crowning of Molly Langella as our 2017 Homecoming Queen, as well as an awesome performance by our marching band, which shared an award-winning show titled “Echoes from the Dark Side: Villians in Action.” Overall, it proved to be a great night filled with unforgettable moments. In the week ahead, we’ll continue to cheer for some of the winter athletic teams that have begun for our Middle School athletes, including tennis and swimming competitions. vs. North Cobb Christian: Boys Win 3-2, Girls Lost 2-3
*Davis Saad (6th) and Trey Kantor (6th) played in their first MS tennis match, and both recorded victories
*Alex Healy (7th) and Trey Kantor (6th) defeated their opponent 8-0
*Isabel Comstock (6th) and Peyton Holsinger (6th) played in their first MS tennis match and fought hard at line 2 doubles
*Caroline Schmitt (8th) and Kristen Peavy (8th) had a strong showing at line 2 and line 3 singles and played very solid
vs. St. Francis: Boys Win 4-1, Girls Win 3-2
*Brandon Carman (7th) notched his first win of the season with a convincing 8-2 victory at #1 singles
*Davis Saad (6th) moved to 2-0 on the season with a strong showing at #2 singles
*Rylie Keeble (8th) played in her first match of the season and played a great match with Gracen Chally (8th) at #1 doubles winning 8-1
*Addie Ellis (7th) recorded her first win on the season with a strong 8-1 victory
*Kristen Peavy (8th) won at #3 singles without losing a game!

*Luke Persons (12th) had a 59-yard pass to Bryce Davis, resulting in a TD
*Thomas Joiner (12th) ran 76 yards for a TD

*Matthew Sumlin (11th) had a successful 29-yard field goal, along with multiple extra points
*WolfPack defense was strong, with Chip Goldsmith (12th) leading in tackles

*TDs from Ayden Duncanson (7th) and Ashton Vreeland (8th)
*Juanes Henao (8th) scored all points after touchdowns
*Both offense and defense executed extremely well, resulting in WA taking the Metro10 Championship!

If your student is interested in getting a letterman jacket, please mark your calendar for November 13 from 7:30 to 8:15 a.m. in the Athletic Center, at which time a representative from the company that provides the jackets will be on campus to size any interested Middle or Upper School students. Sports fees will be assessed the first week of December for all winter sports.
