Four members of the Whitefield faculty and staff recently received awards for their faithful and excellent service to the Whitefield community. Members of the Whitefield administration, faculty, and staff voted on the awards which were presented at a luncheon celebrating the end of a successful school year.

The Barnabas Award for Teaching Excellence was presented to Lower School teacher Beverly Smyly.

"Beverly's love for the Lord, her profession, and her students is evidenced daily through her intentional interactions with students and colleagues," wrote a co-worker. "She imparts wisdom, knowledge, and truth to her students, and her students thrive under her leadership."

The Akers and Millner Award for Teaching Excellence was presented to Middle School English teacher Jennifer Woods.

Co-workers described Jennifer as "passionate about her subject matter," "cheerful," and "a morale booster."

"Jennifer has the ability to see beyond academic performance to the needs of the child as an individual. She is very in tune to the students and their individual differences, however slight they may be."

The David G. Jones Award for Teaching Excellence was presented to Upper School art teacher Rebecca Brown.

"Rebecca has so many gifts she offers to Whitefield," said a fellow faculty member. " such as her expertise in art, her education in art, and her skills in counseling students. I am amazed by her wise perspectives and her gentle delivery when dealing with students - she is truly a gift to the school."

The Ed Vornbrock Award for Outstanding Service was given to Danny Ryan, Whitefield's athletic trainer. This annual award recognizes a staff member whose service to the entire Whitefield Academy family is excellent in the same tradition as its namesake.

"Danny deserves this award from every teacher, coach, and parent at Whitefield. What a gift he gives each child and family that he helps, usually under extreme emergency situations," said a co-worker. "His competence and self confidence (yet humility) in his abilities exudes confidence from others. He is invaluable to Whitefield sports, to parents, and to students. The students really value and appreciate his help. Everyone I know has the highest respect for him."
