Carver-Wheatley Award
The Carver-Wheatley Award is given to the winners in each division of the Carver-Wheatley Black History Month Essay Contest. This award is named in honor of both George Washington Carver, acclaimed scientist and researcher, and Phyllis Wheatley, noted 18th-century poet and author, who were both profound contributors to American life. Students were asked to write about two African-Americans whose impact on history influenced their own lives. The names of the winning students each year will be inscribed on a plaque, on display in Morris Hall.
