On Tuesday, April 4, Whitefield Academy held a senior scholars luncheon in honor of the 36 seniors who have earned the magna cum laude and summa cum laude distinction.
As a group, these students include seven with 4.0 GPAs, three National Merit Scholars, and eight National Merit Commended Students.
To earn the magna cum laude distinction, students must earn a 3.70-4.0 cumulative grade point average during their four years of Upper School; take a minimum of six honors and/or AP courses; take four years of a foreign language (or three years of a foreign language if seven honors and/or AP courses have been taken); and have no failing grades throughout their Upper School career.
Seniors who have earned magna cum laude distinction are: Natalie Bell, Robert Boyd, Carson Brown, Jessica Burnett, Maggie Leigh Faulk, Madison Fry, Will Fulks, Audree Grand'Pierre, Maddy Hill, Lillian Hill, Emily Kendrick, Bailey Koenig, Jonathan Marshall, Katherine Martin, Jimmy McCarthy, Olivia Nicholas, Christina Nicks, Kyle Stewart, Kate Taylor, Brendan Thomas, and Bradley Washington.
The summa cum laude distinction is awarded to students who have achieved a 3.95 or greater cumulative grade point average during their Upper School career; taken a minimum of four AP courses; taken four years of a foreign language (or three years of a foreign language if five AP courses have been taken); and have had no failing grades.
Seniors who have earned summa cum laude distinction are: Lauren Burke, William Hellier, Samara Huggins, Hadyn Jolly, Daniel Justice, Daniel Keith, Melly Lezcano, Olivia Nandkeolyar, Julia Patton, Anna Kate Peterson, Ethan Powell, Elizabeth Pridgeon, Dani Streever, Kathleen Stueve, and Rubin Thomas.
After recognizing these students at the scholar luncheon, Upper School principal Nathan Stevens announced the 2017 valedictorian, Daniel Justice, and the 2017 salutatorian, Rubin Thomas.
