Over 50 math educators from more than 20 Atlanta-area Christian schools gathered at Whitefield Academy recently for a half-day conference entitled "Finding God in Mathematics." The event was organized by teachers at Atlanta Classical Christian Academy, Heritage Preparatory School, Wesleyan School, and Whitefield Academy. The primary purpose of the conference was to discuss the teaching of mathematics from a biblical worldview. Another goal was to promote collaboration among local math teachers. Those in attendance were enthusiastic about the inaugural event and are looking forward to future meetings together.
"The seminar far exceeded my expectations," said Karren Richardson, Whitefield math teacher. "The speakers were very knowledgeable and passionate about their topic. What was the most helpful for me was the interaction with teachers from the other schools. We shared practical ideas about how to show our students examples of God in mathematics. I was amazed at some of the ways that I had not even thought about to bring God into the discussion of math without making it forced. It was very enlightening."
