Whitefield is excited to welcome our new families! Through the Ambassador program, we are getting to know our new students over the summer so that they will feel right at home on the first day of school.
"Current families with boys host our new male students, and Whitefield families with girls host the new female students by grade," said Suna Kantor, who coordinates the program. "In Lower School and Middle School, we have four ambassador families per grade, and they contact the families to welcome them."
Ambassador families set up a small gathering for the kids and parents, which often includes other students from the grade so the new student can meet classmates. Gatherings have taken place at fun locations, such as a pool, a park, or an ice cream shop.
In the Upper School, new students are matched up with a current student that has similar interests in arts, sports, or drama. New Upper School students then have a chance to learn about coaches and teachers so they won't be overwhelmed by the change of entering a new school.
"These are such important connections!" said Kantor. "We want to make sure each new student coming to Whitefield has a few friends and familiar faces before the Back to School picnic and first day of school! We want our new families to feel connected in our community right away and have someone they can go to in order to ask questions. We want to make starting a new school easy."
