Lower School students participating in the piano and violin classes through the After School Program shared their talents at the spring recital on Saturday, April 23, in the Lower School Activity Center.  Again on Tuesday, April 26, our violin students, and our ballet and chorale students performed.  Parents gleamed at the pirouettes and twirls of their daughters in colorful tutus and sat amazed at the progress made by their children from the first squeaky notes of violin and missed chords on the piano. Chorale students, who sang with timidity during their first days of training, now confidently shared their voices in harmony with one another.

“My favorite aspect of the After School program is watching these little children learn a new skill, discover their own ability to grow and develop in that skill, then perform with confidence and joy,” said Jeannie Brostrand, Lower School principal. “Every year the recital experience warms my heart!”

The Lower School After School program offers students an opportunity to try and discover new talents and interests through classes in a variety of academic, art, and athletic classes. Through the years, hundreds of Lower School students have enjoyed classes such as art, ballet, baseball, chess, chorale, piano, robotics, sewing, science, soccer, tennis, violin, and more.

“The wonderful thing about the After School program is that it not only helps children discover what they love, but it also builds community among our families,” said Brostrand. “Friendships are formed and families bond!”
