Whitefield students dressed in beautiful gowns and tuxes on April 8 to attend the 2016 junior/senior prom, “An Intimate Affair.”  Held at the Biltmore Imperial Ballroom on West Peachtree Street, the prom had a theme that was derived from The Great Gatsby, a novel read by every Whitefield student. The theme was based on a familiar quote from the famous novel - “I like large parties. They are so intimate. At small parties, there isn’t any privacy.”

Students met for picture parties before the event then headed off in limousines and cars to delicious dining spots across Atlanta before prom.

At eight o’clock everyone arrived at the beautiful Biltmore Ballroom in midtown Atlanta. Built in 1924, The Biltmore Hotel was the focal point of Atlanta's business and social life for almost sixty years. The hotel underwent a total renovation in 1999 and the beautiful ballroom still features original handcrafted plaster relief ceilings, restored crystal chandeliers, Palladian windows and Tennessee marble floors.

The Ballroom was decorated with an entry runway and beautiful ostrich feather centerpieces created by junior Kathleen Steuve.  Led by a charismatic DJ with an upbeat playlist, students danced late into the evening. They also enjoyed a dessert bar with favorites such as chocolate-covered strawberries and black and white cookies.  A photo booth complete with props was available, and students loved taking photos in the booth throughout the evening. Alumnus Jeremiah Cowan (’14), an accomplished photographer whose work has been featured in ad campaigns for Apple and The Gap, also strolled around during the party snapping photos.

Faculty chaperones enjoyed dancing as well and reminisced about Whitefield with members of the senior class who were celebrating their last prom. The students finally closed down the ballroom when the manager of the venue insisted it was time to go home!
