Whitefield traveled to tournament host, Mount Paran Christian School, to win the WolfPack’s fourth straight Gannon Cup. The Gannon Cup is awarded to the winner of this post-season 1A-only tournament.
The WolfPack faced the Mount Paran Eagles in the final game. The Eagles were hoping to avenge a loss to the WolfPack earlier in the season, but Whitefield had plans of their own. The team started off hot, scoring a season high of eight goals in the first period. The WolfPack scoring was started one minute and 23 seconds into the game by William Charles (12th), playing in his final Gannon Cup. The first period was enough to beat the Eagles who only scored seven goals in the contest. After the first period, the WolfPack settled into their comfortable lead and brought home the win, 15-7.
The offense point tally was led by Jonathan Wood (11th) with four goals and four assists. Mitchell Ryan (11th) netted a season high five goals, while Carter Dixon (11th) also had a season high three goals. William, Joseph Schwartz (10th), and Thomas Joiner (10th) each added one goal to the effort, and Jack Fitzgerald (11th) provided an assist.
The WolfPack defense was kept busy with 27 shots by the Eagles. Joseph dominated the effort with eight ground balls (GB) and four caused turnovers (CT); Connor Callan (11th) added a strong four GB and two CT; Thomas grabbed two GB; Mitchell and Carter each found two GB and created one CT; William, Wills McCutcheon (10th), and Jack Charles (10th) each had two GB; KJ Canion (11th) and Carson Brown (11th) each had one GB; and Brenner McCutcheon (11th) created one CT.
The WolfPack GHSA post-season continues this Tuesday at 5:45 p.m. versus the Golden Lions of St Pius X. The game will be played at St. Pius. Please come to the game and cheer on the Pack!
