Varsity Track Excels at Area Track MeetVarsity Track Excels at Area Track Meet

The Varsity track team enjoyed much success Wednesday on day 1 of the Area 4 (region 6) Class A Private track & field competition. Most of the running events were qualifying rounds for the finals to be held Thursday afternoon at Mt. Pisgah. A large contingent of both boys and girls advanced for Whitefield, with hopes of finishing in the top 4 to advance to the State Sectional competition on Saturday April 30th.



In running finals completed Wednesday, Kate Taylor (11th) finished third in the girls 1600. Brooks Merkle (10th) took second and Zachary Justice (9th) was third in the boys 1600. The boys 4 x 800 relay was an exhibition race, and our team of Jordan Johnson, Luke Petersen, Crawford Folk, and Caleb Corliss (all 9th) was victorious.



All field events Wednesday were finals, with Wolfpack athletes racking up significant points. Shelby Wingate (9th) and Kaitlyn Johnson (11th) placed second & fourth in the girls long jump and Grayce Guthrie (9th) finished ninth in the discus and tenth in the shot put. Brendan Myles (12th) and Jordan Greer (12th) went second and fourth in the high jump, while Jordan Saibu (11th) placed second in the triple jump. Austin Sumpter


(10th) and Chip Goldsmith (10th) were fifth and ninth in the long jump. In the discus, Carson Brown (11th) was second and Ty McLemore (12th) third. Brown and McLemore also finished third and seventh in the shot put.



The team appreciates the large contingent of parents, students, and faculty who came out to cheer and enjoy the competition, and to the many volunteers who contributed to hosting the meet. Special thanks to Coach Dupree and to Mr. Nardi & his staff for all their preparations in helping pull this all off. We anticipate additional great success on Thursday. GO PACK!
