On Monday, the after-school chess program held its popular bughouse tournament to finish up a year of learning and competition over the chess board. The program had its largest number of students to date with 47 first through fourth graders participating.
The team of fourth grader Nathan Jones and first grader Sophia Kwon took first place in the bughouse or "doubles chess" competition. Fourth grader Walker Paxton and first grader Natalie Gressler finished in second place. Two teams tied for third place: third grader Graham Hood with second grader Jack Thomas and fourth grader Brayden Parham with second grader Wesley Renn.
The chess program at Whitefield will continue with chess camp this summer and the after-school program returning in the fall!
