The varsity lacrosse team continues to rack up wins. Take a look at these wins against Walker and Sprayberry:
Varsity Lacrosse Beats Walker, 14-4
The WolfPack varsity lacrosse team may have left Marietta a bit battered and bruised, recently, but they claimed the victory against the Walker Wolverines, 14-4. The Wolverines were bigger and had more players, but the superior stick skills and team play of the WolfPack were clearly evident from the onset.
Whitefield jumped to a 7-0 lead until finally relinquishing a goal in the second period of play. The WolfPack added an additional seven in the second half, while the Wolverines found the net a few times late when the outcome of the contest was already known.
Offense was led by a season best performance for Jack Charles (10th) with five goals, as well as two goals and three assists from Jonathan Wood (11th). Carter Dixon (11th) and William Charles (12th) each netted two goals; Mitchell Ryan (11th) added one goal and one assist; Brenner McCutcheon (11th) and Camden Evans (9th) each had their first goals of the season; and Michael McCarthy (10th) provided an assist.
The defense was spearheaded by Brenner with four ground balls (GB) and three caused turnovers (CT); Joseph Schwartz tallied three GB and two CT; Thomas Joiner snagged four GB; Connor Callan (11th), Jordan Saibu (11th), and Camden each grabbed three GB; Jack C. had two GB and one CT; Wills McCutcheon (10th) had two GB; Carson Brown (11th), Jack Fitzgerald (11th), Mitchell, and Michael, added one GB and one CT each; Jonathan added one CT; and Ty McLemore (12th), KJ Cainon (10th), and Jordan Howard (9th) grabbed a GB each.
Sprayberry Swarms But Varsity Lacrosse Claims Comeback Conquest, 18-14
With post season on the line for both teams, the Sprayberry Yellow Jackets breezed into Whitefield on Wednesday, March 30, and left stung 18 times by the victorious WolfPack. Whitefield was kept on its haunches the entire game as they were forced on defense often by one of the state’s best face-off specialists. The WolfPack struck first, but the Jackets flew to a 6-3 first period lead. Whitefield had only trailed once this season by three goals. The WolfPack regrouped, though, showing their character and competitive spirit, firing off seven straight goals to take a 10-6 lead at halftime. The WolfPack continued their attack in the third period to take a 15-8 lead into the final period. The Yellow Jackets caught the WolfPack watching the scoreboard late in the fourth period, mounting a final worrisome assault that was stymied by Whitefield’s aggressive, turnover-inducing defense and time-eating, ball control offense.
While the score total against Whitefield was high, Wills deftly snagged multiple highlight-worthy shots on his goal - keeping Whitefield’s victory a possibility. The defensive effort was exhibited by 28 ground balls and eight caused turnovers. The balanced effort was led by Joseph Schwartz's with four GB and two CT; followed closely by Brenner with four GB and one CT. Conner snagged thee GB and two CT; Jonathan had four GB; Wills had three GB, Carson had two GB and one CT; Thomas grabbed two GB, Mitchell had one GB and one CT;, and Carter had one CT.
