First-grade students recently studied the symbols of the United States, a particularly timely study since it is an election year. The students learned about the United States flag, how it was created, and what it represents; the Statue of Liberty, the Liberty Bell, the Great Seal, and the bald eagle. They also studied many of the monuments in the nation’s capital, such as the Washington monument and the Lincoln Memorial.
Michelle Marriott, first-grade teacher said, "We concluded the unit with each student making a poster of him or herself as President. Who knows, a future President may come from this class!"
