The varsity boys basketball team faced off with two teams the weekend of February 5-6, playing Fellowship Christian on Friday night, and Walker on Saturday. The WolfPack secured a win against Fellowship 56-33 and Walker, 71-53.
WolfPack vs. Fellowship Christian
During the first quarter, Brendon Myles (12th) shot two three-pointers, along with a lay-up and two successful free throws. Malik Jones (12th) added a run of five points, Isaiah Hart (11th) pitched in two successful free throws, and Jimmy McCarthy (11th) made a floater in the lane. At the end of the first quarter, the WolfPack was up 23-9. The second quarter was a low scoring quarter by both the Pack and Fellowship but ended with Whitefield still ahead 27-10. Isaiah, Jimmy, and Malik poured on the energy in the third quarter, racking up a total of 13 points to end the quarter ahead, 40-22. In the fourth quarter, Brendan and Isaiah both had jumpers, and the WolfPack secured the win, 56-33.
WolfPack vs. Walker
On Saturday, scoring began with a jumper at the top of the key by Brendon. Isaiah scored a three-pointer; Brendon made a couple of jumpers; and Jimmy contributed with a rebound shot. Isaiah had a running floater in the lane and scored a free throw, putting the pressure on Walker to produce some points. Walker fought back and the first quarter ended with a narrow advantage of 15-14. In the second quarter, Brendon poured on some jumper points, and Isaiah stole the ball twice, assisting Brendon on another successful basket, and then scoring one himself. Dylan Mclean (9th) put his hat in the ring with a jumper basket. Walker didn’t back down, and the two teams tied it up a few times. Despite the back-and-forth action, the second quarter ended with Whitefield up by a few points, 30-27. In the third quarter, the teams continued to spar. Isaiah shot successfully from the middle; Jimmy added a basket, and Malik drove down the lane for another good shot. Isaiah surprised the audience with a superb left-handed lay-up and Malik stole the ball, then scored a successful lay-up himself. Brendon delighted the crowd with a three-pointer in the last second of the quarter and the quarter ended with a larger lead, 51-40. Noah Dryden (9th) saw some successful playing time in the fourth quarter, with two three-pointers, one from the corner. Isaiah ran a fastbreak to score a layup, as did Dylan. Julian Munoz added a successful layup and Isaiah did as well. Walker continued to lose its edge and the game ended 71-53 in favor of the WolfPack.
