Whitefield’s 7th-8th WolfPack football team secured an outstanding playoff victory against Kings Ridge in their final game of the season, beating the opponent 30-14.

The first three quarters were dominated by the WolfPack on offense and defense. The first scoring drive of the day was highlighted by several big ground gains by Danny Megathlin (8th).  The drive culminated in a touchdown run by Jackson Lewis (8th) who also earned the two-point conversion.

On defense, the WolfPack was stingy, not allowing any points in the first three quarters of play. Ian Kennedy (8th) led the defensive line with two sacks and Myles Redding (7th) tacked on another interception.

The second scoring drive of the game was marked by a key third down reception from eighth graders Micah Smith to Louis Brogan. A few plays later, on a broken play, Micah scrambled for a 45-yard touchdown. Jackson converted the two-point play and the Pack was rolling at halftime 16-0.

The team opened the second half with a crafty on sides kick recovered by Jackson. The Pack ran behind their offensive line which was too much for the Tigers of Kings Ridge.  If not for an interference call in the end zone, Louis would have added another key catch to the evening. However, his patience would be rewarded later in the game. Instead, Eric Little (7th), in true form all evening, scored on a nifty touchdown run that was converted by Jackson and the Pack extended their lead to 24-0.

After yet another defensive stand, the offensive hard work paid dividends again when Micah connected an 18-yard pass to Louis for a touchdown which put the Pack up 30-0.

A running clock and ample play for the entire team allowed two scores late by Kings Ridge, one was following an interception return and the second was on a short drive off of a very good kick return.

Kings Ridge tried an on sides kick in the final two minutes but it was promptly recovered by Danny, thwarting any additional efforts.

The WolfPack offense controlled the remaining time with hard running by Ryan Washington and Devonte Watson.  The final score was 30-14.

The 7th-8th grade team winds up with the best record in recent memory (6-2) and sets a new winning standard for others to follow.  Thanks to all the Coaches, cheerleaders, trainers, players, volunteers, parents, and fans for a very exciting and successful season.   GO PACK!
