Four Whitefield sixth-graders participated in the Georgia Music Educators Association Sixth-Grade Statewide Honor Chorus in Tifton, GA on February 6 & 7. Anna Cochran, Tiffany Graham, Joseph Santone, and Scott Hellier were selected by Millie Turek, Middle School chorus teacher to represent Whitefield and to sing with the most outstanding sixth-grade singers in the state.
The students were under the direction of nationally-acclaimed composer and choral clinician, Sally Albrecht, who composed a piece specifically for the event. Turek served as the accompanist for the All-State choir.
“It was exciting to see the singers work with a living composer and premiere a new piece of music!” said Turek.
The students were chosen based on their outstanding musicianship and participation in the Whitefield Middle School Chorus. Sixth-grader Julia Keith was also chosen for the event but was unable to attend.
