The varsity swim team participated in the  GHSA state swim meet held at Georgia Tech over the weekend and had a fabulous showing.  With heavy intensity these swimmers battled it out mentally and physically against 124 other schools ranging in size from 1A to 5A .  These were the best of the best.  The girls’ medley relay kicked things off with Audree Grand’Pierre (10th) leading the way in the backstroke, followed by Katie Cella (9th) in the breaststroke leg. Kaite tagged senior Naomy Grand’Pierre to swim the butterfly, then freshman Kaitlyn Stewart raced to the finish line with the freestyle.

Individually, Audree Grand’Pierre dropped .25 for a 26.10 in the

50m free and dropped 1.37 seconds in the 100m backstroke, giving her a 1:01.23 time and an amazing performance, just shy of making finals.  The older Grand’Pierre, senior Naomy, qualified for the championship finals in both of her races, the 50m and 100m freestyle.  In the finals she swam a blazing-hot 24.36 in the 50m, winning eighth place, and swam a 53.11 in the 100m, securing seventh place. Brooks Merkle also qualified for finals.  He shocked even himself by dropping almost two seconds in the 100m breaststroke for a time of 1:00.35 and winning 14th place.  Thank you Coach Tim Storsteen and team for a great season!  Whitefield was well represented.
