Funds raised at the 2015 Auction for the Arts have enabled a number of improvements to the Whitefield arts program, such as dramatic upgrades to the sound and lighting systems in the Lower School Student Activity Center (LSSAC) including new lighting fixtures, wireless microphone kits, loudspeaker modules, and other equipment.
“The new pieces have really improved the sound in the LSSAC for regular events such as weekly chapels,” said Keith Denmon, Whitefield’s new technical director. “We will also see a remarkable improvement at both Lower School productions later this year.”
This equipment upgrade will not only improve sound in the LSSAC, but will allow those with limited knowledge of sound technology to operate the system. Parents can use the equipment at meetings or faculty can easily set up a microphone or use music playback during a class.
“The system operates utilizing a simple touch panel, which allows easy operation of the on/off buttons, and volume controls for up to four input channels, which are located right on the touch panel. No other equipment needs to be pulled out or hooked up for the system to operate,” said Denmon.
An added feature of the system is a projector lift which allows the LSSAC screen to be raised and lowered without obstructing the audience’s vision or view. This is especially helpful during times when an event requires video projection while there is activity on the stage. Cabling for the system is run overhead while the audio and lighting consoles plug into the wall around midcourt. This eliminates the hazard caused by wires being strung across the floor, making for a safe and tidy room for any event.
“These upgrades all come together to make a complete integrated system that provides both outstanding stage lighting options and a sound system that can handle anything - a large dramatic production, a live band, or a simple meeting with one speaker. The new system provides even sound coverage for the entire room and provides clarity that the old, portable system did not,” said Denmon. ““As a tech nerd and the guy who is now responsible for all of the AV systems around the campus I am very grateful to have this new system in place. It will certainly make my life a little easier.”
