The Middle School 5th/6th football team shut out St. Francis with an 8-0 win, thanks to strategic coaching and an all-out effort by Whitefield players.
Offensively, the highlight of the game was the debut of Ashton Vreeland (6th) at fullback. Ashton carried a busload of passengers on his back for strong yards, which set up the continued success of the Pack's "pass attack." The Pack moved the ball consistently but a series of untimely penalties kept the score low. The Pack's only score came one second before the half with a QB keeper by Cole Peterson (6th) up the middle.
Defensively, the team performed well after adjustments made by the coaching staff due to previous losses to formidable opponents. Tim Miller, defensive secondary coach, eliminated the free safety position and challenged his "hard-hitting" secondary to play aggressive attack-style defense. Defensive Coordinator Coach Bob Van Dillen was proud of his crew for stopping St. Francis three times on 4th and short yardage.
Miller instilled a pre-game chant to stir up the enthusiasm of players. The team’s new uniforms, white jerseys and white pants, also added to team spirit. Dan Moorer, dad of Jake Moorer (6th), brought headsets for the coaching staff and was the “eye in the sky" for defensive schemes on both sides of the ball. Congratulations to Coach Matt LaVallee on his first career win as head coach.
