The seventh and eighth-grade football team played its season opener on the road against Landmark, beating the War Eagles 36-0. The game was marked by excellent play on both sides of the ball.  On offense, a healthy mix of run and pass amassed 30 points in the first half alone, quarterbacked by Micah Smith Solid blocking along the line resulted in touchdown runs by Micah, Jackson Lewis. Danny Megathlin, and Eric Little, all in the first half.  Two-point conversions were added by Jackson, Danny, and Eric, on three of those four scores.

The defense held the War Eagles scoreless in the first half. A solid inside line play by Alex Martin, and Preston Lang shut down the Landmark running game early.  Play off the edges produced tremendous pressure on the Landmark quarterback all game long. Ian Kennedy logged several solo tackles for a loss and a sack.  Eric added a sack from the solid defensive backs’ play as well.  Jason Dinschel snagged two interceptions and Miles Redding added another interception.  The score at half was 30-0.

In the second half, Whitefield delivered more of the same.  Eric, having several runs throughout the game of 20-plus yards, was a key contributor.   Also running hard in the second half was Jackson as the offensive line continued to open holes.  Due to a running clock, the second half possessions were limited but Whitefield did add another score:  a touchdown pass from Micah to Drew Thomas.  Drew caught the two-point conversion also to add to the score.

The defense kept up the pressure and preserved the shut out in the second half with with contributions from Jake, Drew, and Devonte Watson.
