The boys and girls varsity track teams made a strong showing in their first meet of the season against George Walton and Hapeville Charter. The boys won their meet with 64 points. The girls finished second despite competing in only 12 out of 16 events. Together the teams set 13 new personal records.
Seniors Cameron Thornton, Taylor Tutt and John Alar led the charge for the boys with two first place finishes each. Cameron continued his stellar career with first place finishes in the 800m (1:58:37) and the 1600m (4:31:03). Taylor won the shot put with a new personal record throw of 42-7.5 and the triple jump (36-4.75). John took first place in the high jump (5-10) and in the 300m hurdles (47:47) and finished second in the 110m hurdles in a new personal record time of 19:00. Senior Jay Fields had a first place finish in the 110m hurdles in a new personal record time of 18:72 and was second in the shot put (38-5) and third in the 100m (11:85). Other points scorers for the Pack were senior James Harper (fourth in the shot with a new personal record of 35-2), freshman Brandon Morris (fourth in the long jump and fourth in the 200m), sophomore Jaylen Hudson (second in the triple jump with a new personal record of 34-8.5), and freshman Robby Keough (second in the 1600m with a new personal of 4:50.15 and a new personal record in the 3200m of 11:02:64, 47 seconds better than his previous record). Junior Holt Merkle earned fourth place in the 1600m and second in the 800m with a new personal record of 2:12:22 while senior DK Langford earned fourth place in the 800m.
For the girls, junior Morgan Landers and sophomore Alice Fugate had two first place marks each. Morgan finished first in the triple jump (33-10.5) and in the long jump with a new personal record of 15-0. Morgan also added a second place finish in the 200m with another new personal record of 27.19. Alice finished first in the 100m with a new personal record time of 12:56 and in the 200m with another new personal record of 26:77. Sophomore Anna Long got her track career off to a good start with a first place finish in the 300m hurdles (58:25) and a fourth place mark in the 100m hurdles (21:35). Sophomore Katie Kassis took first in the 3200m (14:33:66). Other points scorers for the girls team were junior Jordan Jones who earned second place in the long jump, the triple jump, and the 100m (with a new PR of 12:98), senior Rebecca Kerman (third in the 1600m), junior Alexis Allen (fourth in the 400m and third in the 100m), and freshman Whitney Merkle (second in the 3200). The girls 4x100m relay team of Morgan, Jordan, Alexis, and Alice added a win in 51:50 which is currently the second best time in the state in Class A.
