Although temperatures were frigid, the varsity girls tennis team banded together to beat Strong Rock by a razor-thin margin on Thursday, February 26. The team won 3-2 with tough, competitive play. The heroine of the day was Ansley Guthrie who was thrust into the #3 singles spot for her debut varsity singles match. Ansley won 8-4 with quickness and speed and not one winner hit against her. At #1 singles, Rachel Hicks won 8-0 with her dominant, yet graceful style. Megan Schwarzkopf shook off some rust in not playing in over a week and won the final five games for an 8-3 victory. Audrey Garrett and Hanna Grace Miller put up a tough fight but lost to the #1 doubles tandem. Brenna Fowler and Whitney Merkle were neck-and-neck, losing close deuce games in the end to come up short 5-8. Congratulations, girls!
