Congratulations to three Whitefield Academy jazz band students who have been invited to play with the Atlanta Community Symphony Orchestra (ACSO) in its performance of Gershwin’s An American in Paris. Felton Smith (11th), Brandon Morris (12th), and Will Fulks (10th) will be playing tenor, alto, and baritone saxophones for the concert.
The students were invited to play by ACSO Director Juan Ramirez. Ramirez is an Atlanta Symphony violinist who heard them play at an Atlanta Youth Symphony Orchestra concert.
“I brought them to the concert, to fill in for some missing horn parts,” said Stacy Quiros, Whitefield fine arts coordinator and jazz band director. “They made a positive impression and he asked me if I could bring them in for this adult concert.”
The event is on Sunday, February 8, at 4 p.m. at Georgia State University in Florence Kopleff Recital Hall. Admission is free.
