Varsity Boys Basketball Team Neats Walker and Landmark
On Friday night the varsity boys basketball team hosted Walker. During the first quarter of the game the boys opened up with an 8-0 run before Walker finally scored. The team ended the first half of the game leading 30-19. The scoring continued in the second half for the WolfPack and they never gave up the lead. In the end Whitefield won 63-46.
Leading the team in scoring for the night was senior Norman Harris with 15, followed by junior Brendon Myles with 11. Brendon led the team in rebounds with 12, followed by junior Jordan Greer with nine and junior TJ Carter with seven. Sophomore Jimmy McCarthy led the team in steals with five.
On Saturday the team hosted Landmark Christian. The first half of the game started out slow for the WolfPack as Landmark took a lead of 16-11 at the end of the first quarter. Whitefield didn't give up amd they closed the gap on Landmark's lead down 25-24 at the end of the first half. During the second half of the game the WolfPack took control of the game after scoring 32 points in the third quarter, compared to Landmark's 12 points. In the end Whitefield prevailed and won 71-53.
Norman led the team in scoring with 21 points followed by sophomore Isaiah Hart with 17 and freshman Myles Belyeu with 14. Myles led the team in rebounds with 11 while Norman had 10. Leading the team in assists was Isaiah with three. Great playing boys!
Varsity Girls Basketball Team Wins Two
The Lady WolfPack varsity basketball team won on Friday, January 23 and Saturday, January 24, defeating Walker and Landmark.
In the 55 – 37 victory over Walker on Friday, the Lady WolfPack defense held Walker to single digit scoring in two quarters with Devyn Wilson and Lillian Hill leading in rebounds. Laren Vanarsdale and Devyn scored 19 and 17 points, respectively. Contributing points to the win were Sydney Wingate, Carmyn Cosey, Samara Huggins, and Lillian. The ladies were delighted to have Hannah Brown back on the court with them.
On Saturday, Laren and Carmyn led the Lady WolfPack offense in the 60 – 44 victory over Landmark. Laren scored 20 points, stealing the ball multiple times and making fast breaks for the goal. Carmyn, scored 13 points, was just as aggressive on defense, upsetting many Landmark passes. With 10 points and most of the rebounds, Devyn played an outstanding game. Lillian, Sydney, Samara and Misha McDaniel also scored, rebounded, and worked at holding Landmark to two quarters in single digit scoring, giving up only five points in the fourth quarter.
