On Saturday, October 25, the 2014 Whitefield Academy varsity basketball team hosted a free basketball camp on behalf of the Atlanta Youth Academy (AYA) from 9 a.m. to noon. AYA students in grades third through eighth participated in the camp.
“The team did an outstanding job of helping to develop the skills and playing knowledge of the students in the camp,” said Tyrong Johnson, Whitefield varsity basketball coach. “Impressively, the team members successfully ran the camp entirely on their own.”
Following the basketball camp, the Whitefield varsity boys basketball coaching staff hosted a coaches clinic on behalf for the AYA coaching staff from 1 to 4 p.m. The clinic entitled, Ball at the Round Table, was an interactive style of teaching and learning about the game of basketball. Courtney Brooks, former head basketball coach at Southwest Atlanta Christian, and Darius Hodge, Hiram Head varsity basketball coach, did a phenomenal job of providing high quality instructions to the coaches in attendance. Thank you to all the coaches and players who volunteered their time and efforts to give back to the AYA students and coaches.
