Varsity Girls Soccer Team Beats Pace

The varsity girls soccer team took on state ranked Class A rival Pace Academy last night. The Lady WolfPack took the lead just two minutes into the game on a goal by Sophie Kemether (12th) with an assist by Caitlin Kleefeld (12th). Throughout the game, there were numerous scoring opportunities on both sides. Lauren Burke (9th) recorded 12 saves, two of which were ESPN Sports Center Top 10 worthy. With just four minutes remaining Pace was able to tie it up 1-1, leading to two scoreless overtime periods. Having played 170 minutes of soccer in two days, the girls had to dig deep. In order the break the tie, they went to penalty kicks. Whitefield converted their first four kicks with Frances Hamilton (12th), Elaine Sharitz (12th), Mary Kendrick (11th) and Kathryn Bracher (11th) all contributing. That was enough for the win as Pace was only able to convert one kick for a goal - due again by outstanding play by Lauren.
